She recognized the number as soon as it cam up on the screen. She was surprised to hear from his office already, knowing how many people were on holidays this time of year. As she answered she felt confident that this call would be similar to the many others before it….”No change, no growth. We will schedule your next MRI”. Only a tiny bit of worry, of doubt, snuck into her mind as she said “hello”.
She was caught off guard by the nurse’s words. “Dr. W. would like to schedule an appointment to go over your MRI results. Can you come in later this week?” She wasn’t expecting that. She had never had to go in before. The nurse tried to reassure her but it did little to quiet her rising concern. She called “her people”. They each in turn tried to be supportive and encouraging, but she could hear the worry in their voices too.
So far, this had been the best summer she could remember with still so much ahead to look forward to. She would not allow this dark cloud to hang over them and ruin all the fun. She spent the next few days trying to keep her mind off things. She kept busy with friends, and family. She swam and bowled and talked and laughed. She cleaned and cooked and organized. She surrounded herself with smiles, laughter, kids. She was grateful that one of her oldest and dearest friends was home for a visit from overseas, along with her two beautiful, blonde and precious goddaughters. She tried not to let the worry get to her but in those quiet moments alone it snuck in and overwhelmed her. The tears washed over her. She let her mind go to those places. Had the tumour grown? Would she need brain surgery? Had they found something else? …Something new and even scarier?
Maybe her neurosurgeon just wanted to see her to touch base. It had been 3 years. As the week wore on she waited and she counted down the days, the hours, the minutes until Friday at 3.

Sucks big time. No doubt about that. Your positive attitude will help you through this. And maybe it is nothing. Let's hope so.
Hang in there.
