A month into our summer vacation already, it seems unbelievable. When the final buzzer of school sounded, I rounded up my troops and headed lakeside. Lee River is my solace and while it is not my family cabin but rather Chad's, I feel so at home there, like I, too, grew up with lake blood. I spent a great deal of time there this month, enjoying the sun, my in-laws, the water and most importantly my monkeys. They have the lake in their souls and they would stay as long as we let them. They swim and jump all day off the dock, tubing and skiing. Their little bods have turned bronze and their hair blond and they are more alive and comfortable in the water than anywhere else. With every passing day at the cottage, I could feel the stresses of the school year evaporate like the water off my little ones. I stayed out as much as I could, taking a break from the house and the clean up, the projects and the computer. It has been a relaxing and very rejuvenating month. I am trying not to stress about playdates and plans and am trying to live more in the moment, going where the wind takes us a little more. We have spent time with many old friends and sparked some wonderful new friendships that I can see will grow with time. The lake has been filled with good visits of friends and bonfires and a day with my family even coming out to visit. I am so blessed to be able to blend both sides together and see my dad and Judy, Katie and Ives enjoy life dockside along with us. The kids will always remember the good sport my dad is with his willingness to tube the day away. There is still so much summer left to unfold, Clear Lake, vacation time for Chad, more lake and no doubt more water time. Sadie has learned to ski and Ty, like his dad, would spent all day paddling and exploring. Mags should have been a mermaid for the love of water that she has, hour upon hour spent diving and floating. Being a full time summer mom has its moments, more than a few arguments to referee, a bit of nagging to pick up after themselves, a lot of patience for all the demands they put on me but at the end of every day, I am so GRATEFUL for the job I have that allows me to soak up the sun in their company every day.
A great post. Lots of summer memories with beautiful pictures
