Yesterday I ran my first 10km. I did the Lockport River's Edge Run along with 85 other people. There were only ten of us in my 10k group while everyone else either did the 1/2 or the 3/4 marathon. To say it was a chilly 7am start is an understatement, although almost immediately after we started the sun was shining and we were all breaking a sweat. Initially I had told Jared that I would be happy with an hour ten finish, but I ended up surprising myself and managed to do it in just over 56 minutes.
The scenery was beautiful, both the river and the houses. The best part of my whole morning was seeing Jared and Ivy in the distance cheering me on as I got closer to the finish. Now I can check a 10km from my list and hopefully run the half next season with Jared, my sister, and my sister-in-law. A girl I was talking to at the start line told me that if I could run 10, running the half is nothing. I don't know if I completely agree, but I'll definitely keep that in the back of my mind. I'm proud of myself for committing to it and seeing it all the way through to the end.
Happy Monday
